Who we are

Techwomencameroun is a non-governmental organisation that helps girls and young women pursue a career in science and technology. The Techgirls program is an international summer exchange program designed to empower and espire young women from around the world to pursue careers in science and technology.

General Provisions

(1) These bylaws are intended to govern the relationship between the TechWomen Alumnae Association of Cameroon and all its members, to ensure a satisfactory performance of roles and responsibilities and to maintain discipline and decorum in the conduct of the affairs of the association.

(2) These bylaws apply to current as well as future members of the association and its officials.

(3) Consequently, all members of the Association accept their bylaws as part of their membership and to abide by them in their entirety and without reservations.

(4) These bylaws shall become applicable after the approval of the General Assembly and the endorsement of the relevant government Offices including the labor office.

Vision, Mission and Slogan

(1) The vision of the Association is to inspire the next generation of women in STEM in Cameroon

(2) The mission is to empower, connect, and support the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing access and opportunity to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and become role models for women and girls in their communities

(3) The slogan is to inspire, empower, and support

 Objectives

The specific objectives of The Association shall be to: 1. Develop the TechWomen’s team dynamics

2. Make the association more attractive, valuable and impactful through Branding, lobbying and advocacy

3. Inspire, motivate and mentor young girls and women to interest them in STEM and help them Access opportunities to evolve in the field

4. Promote and support the activities of the Association and the Association members

Activities

Some Activities of The Association shall be to:
  • Raise awareness about the TechWomen program and share TechWomen Cameroon Alumnae experiences.
  • Design and implement community development projects especially those empowering women economically and through Education
  •  Educate Cameroonian Women to excel in STEM through the organization STEM activities e.g. mentorship program, coaching and trainings.
  • Raise Funds for the activities and projects of the Association.
  •  Create an ecosystem of Mentors and Mentees.
  • Foster productive relationships within the Association and with other Women in STEM around the World,
  •  Network with other women groups in Cameroon to impact them with the culture of teamwork and mentorship.
  •  Network with other international organizations in STEM and carryout exchange programs.
  •  Advocate for and support startups in STEM and related fields to encourage a culture of entrepreneurship, positive competition and1 innovation amongst youth.

Membership:

(1) Eligibility:

To be eligible for membership, the applicant:

  • Must be a graduate of the TechWomen Leadership Program organized by the US State Department
  • be up to date on annual dues
  •  Respect internal regulations

(2) Registration:

To become a member, the eligible applicant must

a. Provide a valid ID card or Passport with two passport size photographs for membership card and file.

b. Show proof that she graduated from one edition of the TechWomen program (program certificate).

c. Accept to serve as a Mentor in the field of her expertise.

d. Commit to respect the internal rules and regulations of the Association which should be signed upon registration

e. Pay annual dues of 25 000 CFA Francs

(3) Membership types:

a. The Association shall have three types of membership (Active, Inactive, and Honorary

b. An Inactive Member is one who acquired membership as defined in (2) d. and (2) e. above and is:

✔ not current in her annual contribution dues;

✔ subject to a disciplinary sanction as defined in (4) a.

c. An Active Member is one who has acquired membership as defined in in (2) d. and (2) e. above and is current with her annual contribution dues.

d. An Honorary Member is one who has been conferred membership by the Association as a result of outstanding contributions of any type to the Association.

e. Each Active Member shall be entitled to one vote for any decision requiring voting and can stand for elections. Inactive and Honorary Members do not have voting rights but may take part in some deliberations of the Association if invited by the Executive Bureau.

(4) Loss of membership

   1. General membership

a. Membership can be lost through death, resignation, expulsion or nonpayment of Membership dues and levies six (06) months after the deadline set.

b. Any member can be expelled for grave misconduct by a two-third majority vote of the General Assembly.

c. In case of death or resignation, the member concerned shall lose all rights.

d. Dissolution of the Association.

   2. Board membership:

Board membership can be lost in the following cases:

a. following the non-fulfilment of the board members’ missions,

b. failure to respect the quotas for participation in board meetings.

  3. Honorary membership

Board membership can be lost in the following cases:

a. If her values or her image are no longer in line with the values of the Association.

b. If her support is not visible within the Association.

  4. Termination

Shall be duly established by The Association Executive Board upon approval by the General Assembly.

Executive Board

(1) They shall be elected by the General Assembly for a two (02) years term renewable once.
(2) The Association Executive Board shall coordinate and execute the activities, policies and procedures of the association as defined by the General Assembly.
(3) They shall be duly registered members of the Association who have fulfilled all their obligations and are of good moral standing.
(4) The Association Executive Board members shall be composed of:
  1. President
  2.  Vice Presidents
  •  in charge of advocacy,
  • in charge of strategy, development and innovation,

     3.  Secretary General

    4. Vice Secretary General

    5. Treasurer

   6. Disciplinarian

   7. Head of Committees

   8. Events Committee

  • Communication,
  • Marketing Committee,
  • Partnership Committee,
  • Mentoring Committee,
  • Grant Committee,
  • Education and Training Committee,
  • Membership Committee (5) Not more than two (02) positions can be held by one member.
